New Year, New Edition


Happy New Year! Not sure how many more updates will be done on the game but there have been quite a few that we have been chipping away at over the course of 2024 that can now be seen in the Playtest 1.1 edition of the game. So what is in edition 1.1? Well, a lot of things.

  • First off, there were some concerns raised that certain aspects of the game would tread a bit too closely to other tabletop game IPs with the mechanics. So the whole combat system has been rebuilt to maintain the same general feel while having a spirit of its own. The previous action-based system has been replaced with a new Maneuver and Maneuver Point system where the cost of maneuvers go up with each subsequent use. The character sheet has also been updated to add places to point each abilities MP cost.
  • Another major change is the inclusion of far more illustrations than the previous version. This includes new equipment illustrations, new artwork for various enemies, and example pictures throughout the positions section. Note: Some of these are of an explicit nature so consider this fair warning in advance. 
  • Another comment was that people liked the more spicy ancestry options so some of the less interesting ancestry options have been replaced with ones that have a more lewd nature instead.
  • Increased equipment. We've added a lot more equipment and items in general. This also includes enchantments for magical equipment.
  • More escort options to hire.
  • More enemies to fight.
  • Added quick reference tables to the front and back of the book. These pages can be printed for use in a ME screen or simply serve as a way to quickly see summaries for many of the rules.
  • Balancing, particularly a number of early enemies have had their armor values nerfed or completely removed. During playtesting, we found that the early enemies were able to absorb far too much damage using their armor so many of these lower threat enemies has had their armor greatly reduced. Also the performer's starting equipment options were improved to make the early levels less troublesome.
  • The solo play rules have been adjusted to use a new system that generates each room one at a time instead of doing a set dungeon layout.
  • The Shorefall quick-start scenario has gotten a number of new illustrations including an improved Shoreside Tunnels map, a map of Adventure's Retreat, and a simple illustration of the island at large.
  • New locations were added to Adventure's Retreat in the Shorefall scenario.

I might be forgetting a few things but that should cover the majority of the changes. Ultimately, the new changes resulted in about 22 pages of new content/artwork.
